The motto of California State University, Fullerton, “Vox Veritas Vita” (“Voice, Truth, Life") should resonate with singers. Situated on 236 park-like acres in Orange County, the university’s authorization was granted by the California Legislature in 1957, and the first students started matriculating in September 1959. This part of Southern California is rich with activities and wonderful weather. The beautiful park-like campus is easily accessible by air or car. Guest artists from around the world come to perform in Meng Concert Hall.

Fullerton Arboretum

Ground breaking for the Fullerton Arboretum came in December 1977, seven years after the idea for a botanical garden on campus was floated by two professors. It quickly became a cause celebre among faculty spouses and residents of the city of Fullerton itself. It occupies 26 acres at the north end of the campus. There are woodlands, desert, and Mediterranean collections as well as a cultivated garden, an outdoor classroom, a Nature Center and two museums.

Grand Central Art Center

Occupying a former central market, the Grand Central Art Center is the result of a partnership between Cal State Fullerton and the city of Santa Ana. The art center, about 10 miles from the main campus, is a city-block long and half-city block deep and: live/studio spaces for visual arts graduate students, the Grand Central Main Gallery, Project Room, Education/Teaching Gallery, Grand Central Theater, Gypsy Den Café, Hipcooks, Claudia de la Cruz Flamenco Institute, MASKA, classrooms, and a studio and living space dedicated to the center’s international artist-in-residence program.

The Muckenthaler Cultural Center

Harold Muckenthaler donated his childhood home atop a hill in Fullerton to the city in 1965, expressing his wish to see it used as a public cultural center. Fifty-two years on, the “Muck,” as it is affectionately called, produces musical performances, gallery exhibits, festivals, and arts education classes that serve more than 41,000 people every year. The award-winning museum sits on 8.5 acres.

And More!

Fullerton is a stone’s throw from Anaheim (think Disneyland) and Knott’s Berry Farm, as well as 22 miles from Los Angeles. There is a wealth of parks and attractions in the area, including the La Brea Tarpits & Museum, aside from the opportunities for sight-seeing in LA itself.
